MEB/PEB

Owens & Kurz, LLC has the Military experience you need on your side.

MEDICAL EVALUATION BOARDS (MEB) / PHYSICAL EVALUATION BOARDS (PEB)

PUT OUR EXTENSIVE MILITARY AND LEGAL EXPERIENCE ON YOUR SIDE

The Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) exists to evaluate a Service member’s health and reports its assessments to the Physical Evaluation Board (PEB). The decisions that these boards make have the potential to greatly impact your future in the military, as well as your family’s future.

If you believe an unfair or inaccurate decision was made regarding your medical condition or future in the military, you can appeal an MEB/PEB decision. Our experienced military defense lawyers at Owens & Kurz, LLC know how to advocate for you in these situations.

Our lead attorney has 25+ years' experience as an active service member, and our attorneys share 40 years of legal experience. We know how to aggressively fight to uphold your rights. Call today for a free, initial consultation: (888) 570-4612.

HOW THE MED AND PED PROCESS WORKS

The MED’s job is to assess the Service member’s health and make recommendations to the PEB regarding his or her fitness to continue in the service or eligibility for disability.

The MEB will evaluate the Service member’s:

  • Medical history
  • Current condition
  • Extent of an injury or illness

Taking these factors into consideration, the MEB will determine whether or not the Service member’s condition will interfere with his or her ability to carry out duties at full capacity. However, the MEB does not have the authority to make a decision about a Service member's future. Instead, the MEB will send their recommendations to the PEB.

If the MEB believes that the Service member does not meet standards or that he or she should be transferred to a different occupation within the military, the board will send those recommendations to the PEB, who will make the final decision. Following military service regulations, the PEB will make official decisions regarding whether or not a Service member will continue in the service or be discharged, if he or she should be moved to a different occupation or specialty, or if he or she is eligible for disability compensation.
